Elgporslin (Elg Porcelain) is a Swedish porcelain brand founded in 1965. This plate from 1977 is the fourth in series “Jultallriken Sverige”, i.e. “Christmas Plate – Sweden”. It is called “Värmland – Mårbacka”, and shows a scene where the famous fictive character Nils Holgersson stands with his goose in front of the manor house Mårbacka in Värmland, Sweden. A limited edition of 3000 pieces, this is #1101.

Värmland is a county in west central Sweden. Selma Lagerlöf – Nobel prize winner in Literature 1909 and author of the famous novel The Adventures of Nils – was born and raised at the manor house Mårbacka in Sunne, Värmland, Sweden. In 1907 she bought back the estate after the family had lost it in 1889, due to Selma’s brother running bankrupt and moving to America.

The plate measures Ø 19,5 cm / 7,5 inches. It has never been displayed and comes in excellent condition with its original box. The box shows some wear due to age and also has “1101” written on it.
