Description
In 1971 the renown Swedish porcelain manufacturer Gustavsberg began their production of Christmas plates, according to an attached booklet “to acommodate the wishes”. This is the Number 6 Christmas Plate (Jultallrik) 1976, made in a limited edition. The decoration is designed by artist Sven Jonson. Ø ca 21,3 cm / approx. 8.3 inches. Made of bone china.
Sven Jonson, a specialist in graphic decorations, chose to depict everything that comes with Christmas around the candle and dancing Santas; ginger bread men, apples, Swedish lussebulle (saffron bun), stars, a pig, Christmas tree decorations, etc. The No 6 in series depicts the lighted candles in a Christmas tree. The decoration is very graphic and made in a deep blue tone.
The plate has never been displayed and comes in excellent condition. The backside has some chip-like holes in the bone china glaze, due to the manufacturing process. (I notice this on all Gustavsberg’s plates.). A hanging device is attached to the plate. The original box has a large, brown stain, and is not in good condition due to this.
Made in Sweden.
