Description
In 1971 the renown Swedish porcelain manufacturer Gustavsberg began their production of Christmas plates, according to the attached booklet “to acommodate the wishes”. This is the Number 7 Christmas Plate (Jultallrik) 1977, made in a limited edition. The decoration is designed by artist Sven Jonson. Ø ca 21,3 cm / approx. 8.3 inches. Made of bone china.
Sven Jonson, a specialist in graphic decorations, chose to depict everything that comes with Christmas around the candle and dancing Santas; ginger bread men, apples, Swedish lussebulle (saffron bun), stars, pigs, horses, Christmas tree decorations, etc . The decoration is very graphic and made in a deep blue tone.
The plate has never been taken out from the box except for this photograph, but has a 1,5 cm long crack in the bone china/glaze on the backside (see photo in gallery). Because of this there is also a very small notch in the outer edge, visible from the front side. This does not affect the overall appearance, and is most certainly due to a fault made during the manufacturing process. A hanging device is attached to the plate. Original box in good condition.
Made in Sweden.
