Description
In 1971 the renown Swedish porcelain manufacturer Gustavsberg began their production of Christmas plates, according to an attached booklet “to acommodate the wishes”. This is the Number 9 Christmas Plate (Jultallrik) 1979, made in a limited edition. The decoration is designed by artist Sven Jonson. Ø ca 21,3 cm / approx. 8.3 inches. Made of bone china.
Sven Jonson, a specialist in graphic decorations, chose to depict everything that comes with Christmas around the candle and dancing Santas; ginger bread men, apples, Swedish lussebulle (saffron bun), stars, a pig, Christmas tree decorations, etc. In the 1979 plate the motif is derived from the old hymn “Es ist en Ros entsprungen”, with the Rose and shining stars. The decoration is very graphic and made in a deep blue tone.
The plate has never been displayed and comes in excellent condition. The backside has some chip-like holes in the bone china glaze, due to the manufacturing process. (I notice this on all Gustavsberg’s plates.). A hanging device is attached to the plate. Original box in good condition.
Made in Sweden.
