Description
Swedish porcelain manufacturer Hackefors made a series of Remembrance Plates (Minnestallrik) depicting Swedish kings. This plate was made in remembrance of Swedish king Oscar II. Limited edition, this is No. 1120. The plate is made of pure cobalt and gold.
A silhouette of Oscar II in gold together with the crown from the Swedish Regalia and Oscar II:s monogramme. Around the picture is the text: Brödrafolkens väl – Sveriges väl – H. M. Konung Oscar II – 1829 – 1907 (Swedish). In English, that is firstly the king’s motto (freely translated): The Well-being of the Brethren (until 1905) – The Well-being of Sweden (from 1905) – His Majesty the King Oscar II – 1829 – 1907.
On the backside it says Oscar II King of Sweden and Norway 1872-1905, King of Sweden 1905-1907. There are also two different stamps, one from Hackefors porcelain manufacturer, Sweden, the other from Tonkin AB, Linköping, Sweden. As far as I know, Tonkin was a renowned seller of collectibles.
Ø 20 cm / approx. 7.5 inches. A suspension device is fastened to the backside. The plate comes in excellent condition with original box.
