Description
A sparkling midnight blue/cobalt blue Annual Plate of 1973 by Swedish renowned glass ware company KOSTA (Kosta Boda) showing a ship in gold. Design by Vicke Lindstrand.
From the enclosed description: “All over the world, the ship is a symbol for the church. /…/ God’s church is sometimes compared to a ship with Jesus at the rudder. This comparison was first made in the early Christian era. One of the Church fathers, Chrysostomes (deceased 407 A.D.) said: ‘Christ steers the ship, the cross is the mast, faith is the sail, the Holy Spirit is the driving force and God’s Word the compass.’ /…/ The concept behind the metaphor of the church as a ship may be said to be that we shall be carried on it over the ocean of time in fair wind and foul to asafe and secure harbour in a better world.”
Vicke Lindstrand signature and Kosta logotype engraved on backside. The plate comes in excellent condition with original box. (The blue colour is a sligthly darker and deeper than shown in the photos and the gold is much brighter.) Measures Ø 23 cm / 9 inches.
Made in Sweden.
