Description

Rörstrand, Sweden annual Christmas Plate 1972 – Jultallrik 1972. Number 5 in the series. The 1972 edition continues the Nils Holgersson series with “Rättvik, Dalarna”. The motif has been fetched from “The Wonderful Adventures of Nils” by the famous Swedish novelist Selma Lagerlöf. Limited edition. Ø ca 19,5 cm / approx. 7.6 inches. Design: Gunnar Nylund. Made in Sweden.

The plate with its blue decoration depicts people in traditional festive clothes marching behind a fiddle-playing man on a horse. Perhaps it is a wedding procession. The church in the background is the Rättvik Church in Dalarna, Sweden. In an arch-like formation from northwest to northeast from the church, 87 grey timbered church stables are situated. Most of them are from the 18th and 19th centuries, but one of them, according to dendrocronology, is dated to 1492. The church was the meeting place for many events in the old Sweden, not only religious, but also more profane situations. To reach the church without having to walk, you had to bring your horse, therefore all the stables.

The plate has never been displayed and comes in perfect condition with original box. The box may show some wear due to age.
